How a 220-GHz Terahertz Gadget Could Power Autonomous Cars, Industrial Robots, and 6G Networks

A new 220-GHz terahertz prototype from Huawei and Shanghai Jiao Tong University crams a 64-Gbps wireless link and millimeter-resolution imaging into a 20×20×10 cm box. By reusing the same hardware and waveform for both sensing and communication, it points toward 6G networks where autonomous cars, robots, and infrastructure share data and “see” the world with the same terahertz eyes.

AST SpaceMobile: Unfurling the Future with Direct-to-Smartphone Satellites

AST SpaceMobile has launched its first Block 1 BlueBird production satellites, designed for direct-to-smartphone connectivity, into low Earth orbit. Each satellite carries a 64-square-meter phased array antenna for broad mobile coverage. Initially, service will be limited in the U.S. until regulatory approval is granted, but global testing is authorized. The technology will allow direct satellite-to-phone communication without ground-based towers, promising connectivity in remote areas. Plans to launch more advanced Block 2 satellites next year aim to deliver faster and more reliable service worldwide.
